BOOMERANG

Sunride’s Recovery team is designing an steerable parachute system capable of returning rockets to a pre-designated landing site. This system will be implemented in ‘Boomerang’, a single-stage dual-deployment rocket which will be competing at the Mach-24 competition in July 2024.

In the UK, high-altitude rocket launches must be directed over sea which raises challenging and costly recovery operations, such as splashdowns or water recovery methods. The steerable parachute system aims to bypass these challenges and enable rapid reusability of rockets. The system is autonomously controlled and features Sunride’s first in-house made parachute.
