SUNFIRE-IV
About Baldrick
Affectionately known as Baldrick, this engine is designed to fly on our Black Adder liquid rocket, which aims to be the first of its kind to launch from UK soil. It uses nitrous oxide and IPA to produce 1.25 kN of thrust and is cooled through innovative spiral cooling channels. It is made of an AlSi10Mg aluminium alloy, additively manufactured by our sponsor Aconity3D. Sunride is massively thankful to Aconity3D for printing both SF-III engines, SF-IV, and SF-V.
We plan to test SF-IV at Sheffield Propulsion Lab (SPL), the University’s blast test facility, in Autumn 2025. For any queries regarding SPL, please contact Dr Alistair John.
